Operation Shrink Your Body – Day 146: May Fruits

I love May!  The beautiful Spring colors and wonderful produce rejuvenate my spirits.  Let’s get started by enjoying some of the fruits of the month 🙂
Cherries
Cherries are nutritious, delicious and fun to eat!  Cherries are low in calories, however are a rich source of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Researchers have shown that anti-oxidants found in cherries help the body to fight against free radicals, and can prevent development of diseases like cancers and pre-diabetes conditions. These fruits are also rich in anti-oxidants like lutein, zea-xanthin and beta carotene as well as vitamin C.

Pineapples
Pineapple is fruit that is low in calories but nonetheless provide you with  many health promoting nutrients like dietary fiber, mineral and vitamins. Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain that helps in the digestion of food, by breaking down protein. This fruit is also an excellent source of  vitamin C,  B-complex vitamins and minerals like copper, manganese and potassium.

Apricots
Apricots are of Asian origin, and are closely related to peaches and nectarines. These fruits are low in calories, containing 50 calories per 100 g. Apricots are rich in dietary fiber,  antioxidants, minerals and vitamins.  Apricots are excellent sources of vitamin-A, carotene, and vitamin-C. Vitamin-C helps the body develop resistance against infections and helps the body in fighting a cold.

Rhubarb
Rhubarb is very low in calories, but contains important concentrations of dietary fiber, and several B-complex vitamins. The red stalks are rich in vitamin A, ß-carotene, also is a good source of vitamin K. Rhubarb contains vital minerals like iron, copper, calcium, potassium, and phosphorus.
