The Art of Bread Making

Making bread is something I enjoy very much, especially since I found my grandmas bread recipe.  The aromas from baking bread are just mouth watering. To my surprise this bread is actually pretty simple so I thought I will share with all of you. Enjoy!

Wheat Bread

            2 cups warm water (between 80 and 90º F.)

1 (1 oz) packet fast acting yeast

            2 tablespoons dark molasses

            2 tablespoons brown sugar

            2 tablespoons vegetable oil

            1-½ teaspoons salt

            1 cup white flour

            4 cups whole wheat flour

            Preparation:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water.
  2. Add the molasses, brown sugar, oil and salt; mix well
  3. Add to a large bowl with the flours and knead well. May need to add more flour until the dough doesn’t stick to your fingers.
  4. Let the dough rise for 1 hour in the selected baking pan. Bake at 375º F for 1 hour for a bread loaf or 15 to 17 minutes if you want to make small bread rolls.

Yield: 2 small loafs or about 24 rolls
